Born in the north of England, Damian Joyce’s musical journey began at the tender of six, as a classical pianist. However, by the age of eleven, he had turned to the guitar and he started to write his first songs.
In an attempt to broaden his horizons and take his music to a wider audience, Damian decided that his immediate future lay outside of his beloved county of Lancashire. He landed on the Spanish Costa Brava, aged 19, with a few pounds in his pocket and his guitar over his shoulder.
It was from this base that he would spend the next ten years entertaining tourists and traveling the world, playing to audiences in countries as far away as Australia and South Africa. During a stay on the island of Bali, he began to formulate his traveling experiences into more new songs, resulting in the 1997 release of his debut album ‘No Fixed Abode’… Critically acclaimed by the music industry in general, publishing giants EMI (USA) courted Damian. With the offer of a deal, he moved to Los Angeles, California in September 1998.
For the next sixteen years, he wrote original music for film companies such as Warner Bros, whilst continuing to play live shows in the iconic LA area venues, such as The Whisky-a-go-go, Troubador and House Of Blues. In 2001, Damian was invited to perform in Las Vegas, where he then became a regular on The Strip until 2006.
In 2009, Damian released his second CD, ‘The Wilderness’. An album showcasing his full array of songwriting skill and diversity; it features everything from Punk Rock to piano ballads, with Indy Rock and even Rap in between. He also played every instrument, bar drums, on the tracks.
It was also around this time that Damian decided to go down another writing route, by chronologically recording his life adventures in book form. The result is his 2013 novel ‘The Dreamer’s Road’ (Part One); an erudite and humorous story of a young man’s attempt to escape what society was attempting to dictate to him, by exploring the world and his own potential. After much encouragement from readers, critics and friends alike, Damian has since published a sequel, ‘The Dreamer’s Road’ (Part Two), which continues where ‘Part One’ left off.
Inspired by a 2013 European summer tour, Damian returned to LA to record some new material. Produced by Brian Kehew (The Who, Beck, Fiona Apple). It features his good friend and legendary keyboardist, the late, great Keith Emerson (ELP), who ‘insisted’ on contributing, after hearing Damian perform the songs acoustically.
‘Raw’ is Damian Joyce’s third studio album. A stripped down, intimate and heartfelt collection of acoustic compositions; lyrically thought-provoking and inspiring.
‘When You’re Around’ (NYC) – Damian Joyce (featuring Keith Emerson) is the first ‘single’ from the new album and is accompanied by a video shot in New York by the prolific videographer/photographer Jim Wright. (Click link above to view)
